You’re never too old to start judo! People of all ages can benefit from learning judo, as it improves fitness, balance, and self-defence skills. For older participants, judo also emphasises safe techniques such as break falling, which can help reduce the risk of injury from falls in everyday life.

Not at all! Both taller and shorter individuals can excel in judo. Your height may influence which techniques work best for you, but judo is a sport that accommodates a wide variety of styles and physical attributes.

For your first session, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing such as jogging bottoms and a t-shirt is ideal. Once you’ve decided to continue, you’ll need a judogi (judo uniform), which can be purchased through the club.

Gradings are held regularly at the club, giving members the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and move up the ranks. See more detail on our Judo Gradings page.

While both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) are grappling-based martial arts with shared roots, they focus on different aspects of combat. Judo places a stronger emphasis on throwing techniques and controlling an opponent from a standing position. In contrast, BJJ focuses more on ground fighting, submissions, and positional control on the mat.

At Relentless Judo, we now offer classes in both disciplines, allowing members to develop a well-rounded skill set and explore the unique strengths of each martial art. Whether you’re interested in mastering throws, submissions, or both, our expert instructors are here to guide you.
